Retention

When braces are removed, we place orthodontic retainers to prevent shifting and allow the position of the teeth to stabilize. Recent studies have indicated that teeth retain the ability to shift for several years. Your long term orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you've put in so far.

Initially retainers are worn “full-time” but later the need for wear decreases. We currently recommend some minimal wear of the retainers on an indefinite basis.

Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.
