What to do in case of emergency In the event of an Orthodontic emergency (lost or broken appliances) please call our office as soon as possible. This will allow us the opportunity to schedule the time necessary for repair. Call even if you already have an appointment scheduled, as we will need to increase or change the time allowed to make repairs and complete your scheduled appointment in one visit. Loose brackets or bands Call our office immediately for advice and an appointment if a bracket or wire is loosened. Repair of the braces can be time critical in some cases. Lost separators If a separator comes out on its own, call the office for advice as to whether it needs to be replaced. Discomfort with orthodontic treatment During the first week after placement of braces and routine adjustments, you will likely feel some discomfort. You may take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers (whatever you normally take for a headache) as needed awhile you adjust to your braces. A warm wash cloth or heating pad may aid in relief. |
