About Dr. Alvis

Dr. Stephen Alvis is originally from Fairfax, VA, and has lived and practiced orthodontics in Harrisonburg since 1982. He and his wife, Pattie, have four children. In 1971, Dr. Alvis graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina with a major in Chemistry. He received his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia. After dental school, Dr. Alvis completed a dental general practice residency at Philadelphia Naval Hospital and then, performed four years of independent, overseas, general dental practice in the Navy. Dr. Alvis returned to MCV for a two year orthodontic residency after his Naval service and, in 1990, attained Board Certification by the American Board of Orthodontists, as a Diplomate of this organization.

He is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Alvis enjoyed his active participation and service to several community and professional organizations through the years. Based on this involvement, in October 1998, Dr. Alvis was honored with selections as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.
